Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer.
Dr Touma obtained The American Board of dermatology in 97 and then completed adermatologic surgery fellowship at Boston University specializing in Mohs micrographic for skin cancer surgery. This procedure is unique in that it allows complete removal of skin cancer cell by checking the affected tissue microscopically while patients wait, to confirm that all cancer cells are removed, allowing cure rates approaching 99%. This technique also allows preservation of maximal healthy tissue around the tumor, before the post-removal defect is reconstructed expertly to maintain excellent esthetics and function. Many patients have barely visible scars after this most precise approach.
Dr Touma speaks frequently on his skin cancer experience at major conferences, and is recognized for his confident, compassionate and reassuring approach, in addition to his excellent surgical skills .
I have a diversified highly advanced surgical dermatologic practice, but skin cancer
treatment is the most rewarding service I render to my patients. Nothing is
more important than precisely removing an anxiety provoking cancer and
restoring the skin to its almost perfect state, using my extensive experience
in cosmetic reconstruction and rejuvenation of the skin. My patients are
extremely grateful, and I am grateful back to them for the trust they place in me.Dany Touma, MD
A precise skin cancer treatment that removes cancer layer by layer, ensuring complete removal while preserving healthy tissue.
During Mohs surgery, each removed tissue layer is immediately analyzed under a microscope to check for cancer cells, ensuring all cancer is removed before proceeding.
Mohs surgery is optimal for sensitive areas, leaving minimal scarring by targeting only the cancerous tissue, and keeping the surrounding healthy skin intact.
Over the years, Dr Touma has performed over 5,500 successful cases of Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancers such as basal cell carcinomas (BCC), Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanomas, as well as other rare types of skin cancer. He is known to treat skin cancers in very delicate areas such as the nose ears and any challenging areas of the head and neck.
In addition, Dr Touma has extensive experience in using nonsurgical techniques to treat some cases of skin cancer, such as topical photodynamic therapy, lasers, and intra/lesional chemotherapy, to customize solutions depending on the specific subtype of the skin cancer, its location, and patient age and preference.
